EA Elektro-Automatik Introduces High-Power, High-Efficiency Three-Output Battery Test Power Supply (Bidirectional Power Supply)
Testing, simulating, and recovering voltage up to 920 V and power capacity up to 30 kW for battery packs
EA Elektro-Automatik GmbH & Co. KG, a leading manufacturer of programmable DC power supplies, bidirectional power supplies, and regenerative electronic loads, has launched the EA-BT 20000 triple-channel battery tester. It is the only battery testing instrument featuring three channels with the industry's highest voltage and current outputs.Industry-Leading High-Power Battery Testing Instrument
The new instrument can simultaneously test up to three battery cells, modules, or packs, with power capacities of 4 kW/channel, 6 kW/channel, or 10 kW/channel. For higher-capacity batteries, the channels can be paralleled to test 12 kW, 18 kW, and 30 kW batteries. The EA-BT 20000 Triple series consists of eight models offering output voltages from 10 V to 920 V and output current/channel ranging from 40 A to 600 A. Unlike other battery testers on the market, a single EA-BT 20000 can continuously supply three 600 A channels or a single 1800 A channel.Broad Applicability
The EA-BT 20000 three-output battery tester is designed to address the entire battery lifecycle, from materials research to battery development, production, incoming material inspection, and secondary battery recycling. The EA-BT 20000 can test individual batteries, battery modules, and large battery packs used in research and industrial applications, including the automotive, aerospace, and consumer renewable energy sectors.
Comprehensive Solution for Battery Testing and Recycling
The EA-BT 20000 Triple is a fully integrated battery testing instrument, offering maximum power for testing various batteries, modules, and packs. The EA-BT 20000 serves as a complete solution for the development, testing, and recycling of present and future battery technologies and capacities. A single-channel version of the EA-BT 20000 is also available for applications requiring lower power capacity. This version retains the safety and high-speed communication features of the three-channel system but supports output up to 2000 V and 1000 A.
All-In-One High-Power Battery Testing Instrument
The EA-BT 20000 battery tester integrates all necessary functions for charging and discharging battery packs in one device, supporting battery testing, simulation, and recycling. It measures key parameters such as State of Health (SOH) and End of Life (EOL). Through relay outputs, the testing equipment can control external contactors and safety circuits.
EA-Power Control and EA-Battery Simulator software packages enable automated tester operation, recording, and sequencing without requiring programming expertise.
For custom system integration, EA provides driver support, including IVI drivers and NI LabVIEW drivers. The EA-BT 20000 can connect to a PC via SCPI commands or a programmable logic controller (PLC) via ModBus commands. All devices in this series share a unified programming interface, ensuring quick and efficient adjustments. Standard interfaces include USB, Gb/s Ethernet, EtherCAT, and CAN FD. With CAN FD, the battery tester can seamlessly integrate with automotive test benches.
EA devices are designed for installation within rack systems, enabling multi-device battery testing systems. STEP files are available to facilitate setup. The compact 4U housing supports the construction of high-performance rack systems.

Triple-Channel Configuration Maximizes Testing Output
The EA-BT 20000 features three channels, allowing simultaneous testing of three batteries. Compared to single-output instruments, these devices maximize throughput, enabling manufacturers to lower testing costs and reduce capital expenditures on equipment.
Additionally, the EA-BT 20000 processes commands and performs readings with control speeds as fast as 1 millisecond. Paired with the latest interfaces, including EtherCAT, CAN FD, and Gb/s Ethernet, this tester further enhances throughput.
Large Systems with Power up to 1.92 MW
For large battery systems, up to 64 battery testers with a capacity of 30 kW each can be combined to test systems with outputs up to 1.92 MW. A master-slave bus configuration creates a multi-instrument system that operates as a single unit. The master device controls all other instruments and displays total power, current, and any warnings or alarms from individual devices. A secondary shared bus ensures equal distribution of total load across all devices safely.
Other system configurations are possible, including setups for testing high-voltage battery packs with voltages up to 2000 V. The EA-BT 20000 system offers the market’s widest range of performance with the highest voltage and current capacity.
Unmatched Energy Efficiency
When functioning as a load to test or discharge batteries, the EA battery tester can return approximately 96% of the received energy back to the grid, representing the highest efficiency available. This allows the EA-BT 20000 to significantly reduce energy consumption and recover costs. Additionally, while supplying power, the battery tester provides active power factor correction (typically 0.99) and a highly efficient switching power supply circuit to optimize power transmission efficiency.
Wide Voltage and Current Range
EA Elektro-Automatik's battery testers feature true autoranging, providing wide output and input ranges for voltage and current. True autoranging enables full power delivery and absorption across the entire voltage output range. A single tester can handle a variety of voltage and current combinations for different battery packs without the need for multiple instruments.
